February
6, 2010 - At 1329 hours, units with the Special Ops
Battalion were alerted for a structural collapse in
the 4300 block of Sheriff Road, NE. E27 arrived to
find a one story church with the roof into the main
structure with a major gas leak. Nearby houses were
evacuated due to the leak and sheltered in A27.
Special Ops searched the structure with the search dog
while Washington Gas worked to secure the leak. E27
remained on the scene for several hours to assist
Washington Gas.
January
24, 2010 - At 0324 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion
were alerted for a house at 46th Street and Nannie
Helen Burroughs Ave, NE. As units searched the area,
an address of the 4400 block of Hayes Sreet, NE was
said to have a vehicle fire with extension to a two
story house. As units went to this new address given,
it was found that the correct address was the 4400
block of Hunt Place, NE. With E27 now out of position,
we were placed 2nd due. E27 checked the basement and
backed up E30 on the second floor. The Box was held to
two and two for overhaul and to assist
investigators.
January
19, 2010 - At 0900 hours, units with the 2nd
Battalion were alerted for a MVA at Kenilworth Ave
and Burroughs Ave, NE with one trapped. E27 arrived
on the scene to find a three vehicle accident with
one on it's roof and one trapped. E27 deployed the
front bumper line for protection as RS3 arrived to
remove the trapped subject. The Rescue removed the
rear door and B-post to gain access to the patient.
The patient was removed and turned over to awaiting
EMS. Two patients were taken to area hospitals for a
check-up and one patient signed a refusal. Units
cleared the scene in 30 minutes.
January
16, 2010 - At 0210 hours, units with the 2nd
Battalion were alerted for a MVA at I295 and Benning
Road, NE with ejection. E27 arrived on the scene to
find a two vehicle accident at I295 and East Capital
Street, NE. One patient was found in the roadway and
had injuries incompatible to life. A second patient
was found in a vehicle and was transported to PG's
Trauma Center, priority 1. It was determined that
the first patient had wrecked his vehicle into the
jersey wall, got out to inspect the damage and was
hit by the second vehicle.
January
9, 2010 - At 1512 hours, units with the 2nd
Battalion were alerted to the 3300 block of Alden
Place, NE for a house. E27 arrived on side Charlie
of a two story middle of the row with smoke showing
from the first floor on side Alpha. Units found a
fire on an enclosed front porch and quickly
extinguished the same, finding some extension to the
house. The Box was held to one and one to assist
investigators in 20 minutes.

January
3, 2010 - The Deanwood Fire Department would like
to welcome Capt Scott Sefton who transferred from
E21-2 to E27-3. We would also like to bid farewell
to Capt Lou Carter who transferred from E27-3 to
FB-4 and Gerrell Lockett who transferred from E27-4
to T13-4. Good luck guys.
December
29, 2009 - At 0232 hours, units with the 2nd
Battalion were alerted to the area of 62nd Street
and Clay Street, NE for a house. E27 responded 2nd
due and arrived in the area with E30 and T17 to
investigate. A fire was found after searching the
area in the 300 block of 60th Street, NE. E27
arrived on side Charlie of a two story single family
with fire showing from the 1st and 2nd floor of side
D. E27 found no basement and went in thru the rear
to the second floor and knocked down all visible
fire as E30 knocked down the first floor. The fire
was brought under control and the Box was held to
two and two to assist investigators.
December
28, 2009 - At 1222 hours, units with the 2nd
Battalion were alerted to the 1200 block of 42nd
Place, NE for smoke. E27 responded first due and
arrived on side Alpha of a one story single family
with smoke showing from side A. E27 advanced the
200' 1-1/2 to the first floor and found a basement
fire. E27 held the steps while the fire was quickly
knocked down. No extension was found and the Box was
held to two and two to assist investigators.
December
19, 2009 - Platoon #4 braved the blizzard coming
into work to protect the citizens of Deanwood on
Saturday. In between runs, the members shoveled snow
off of the front ramp and vehicles to keep from
getting snowed in. While clearing a Medical Local,
E27 was placed 2nd due for smoke in the Minnesota
Avenue Safeway.
December
17, 2009 - On Thursday, E27 headed to the Prince
William County, VA. training academy to burn with
Recruit Class 360. The Deanwood crew assisted in
several burn evolutions and returned later that
evening to keep the citizens of Deanwood and
surrounding areas safe.
November
28, 2009 - At 0220 hours, units with the 3rd
Battalion were alerted to the 300 block of Anacostia
Rd, SE for smoke. E27 responded second due and
arrived on side Charlie of a three story apartment
building with nothing showing. The building was
filled with smoke as E27 entered with the 350' and
went to the basement. A small fire was found in the
basement and quickly extinguished with no extension.
The Box was held to one and one in 20 minutes.
November
15, 2009 - At 0248 hours, units with the 2nd
Battalion were alerted to 50th and Ames Street, NE
for smoke. Units arrived in the Unit block of 50th
Street to find a one story single family with fire
showing. E27 responded 2nd due and went to the rear
to find the same. Units found heavy fire
throughout the home and knocked down all visible
fire in 10 minutes. E27 operated for approximately
one hour.

13, 2009 - The members of the Deanwood Fire Department
send our heartfelt sympathies to the family and
friends of Technician Fred Perry of Truck Company 13.
Fred passed away this morning after a fight with
cancer. The arrangements are as follows:

6, 2009 - At 2020 hours, units with the 2nd
Battalion were alerted to the 400 block of 61st
Street, NE for smoke. Units arrived on side Alpha of
a two story single famiy with smoke showing from the
first floor on side A. E27 arrived on side Charlie
with the same and no basement or rear access.
E27 backed up E30 with a fire on the first
floor and extension to the second. E27 operated for
just over an hour.

1, 2009 - Evidently the Crew from #4 has been
celebrating Lt Kemp's transfer and keeping late
nights. Not even one pay period after Lt Kemp's last
shift, the #4 Crew made their very first video.
October
25, 2009 - At 1426 hours, units with the 2nd
Battalion were alerted to the 3300 block of Ames
Street, NE for a bedroom. E27 arrived on side Alpha
of a two story middle of the row with nothing
showing. Deanwood members found smoke on the second
floor while entering the residence and confirmed a
bedroom on the same. The fire was quickly knocked
down and the Box was held to one and one a short
time later.

22, 2009 - The Deanwood Fire Department would like
to congratulate Lt Ron Kemp on his transfer from
E27-4 to RS1-3 and Pvt
John Shymansky on his transfer from E27-1 to RS1-1.
We would also like to welcome Lt Kevin Kline to
E27-4 from BFC1-4A who has big shoes to fill as
Demon Leader #4. Good luck guys.
