58th St House

April 30, 2012 - At 0628 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 600 block of 58th Street, NE for a house. E27 responded second due, and arrived on side Charlie of a one story detached with smoke showing. With no basement entrance, the crew ran the 250' through the front door and backed up E30 with a room off. Extension was found in the attic and quickly knocked down. The Box was held to two and two in 20 minutes.

33rd St House

April 16, 2012 - At 1224 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 200 block of 33rd Street, NE for a house. E27 responded first due and arrived on side Alpha of a two story row with nothing showing. Upon entry, smoke greeted the crew. A small fire was found in an upstairs bedroom and quickly knocked down. The Box was held with one and one a short time later.

Minnesota Ave House

April 5, 2012 - At 1658 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 4600 block of Minnesota Avenue, NE for a house. E27 responded first due and arrived on side Alpha of a two story detached with smoke showing from the first floor. The crew found a couple rooms off on the first floor and quickly knocked down the same. With no further extension, the Box was held to one and one.

34th St Apartment

March 27, 2012 - At 2132 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 100 block of 34th Street, SE for an apartment. E27 responded first due and arrived on side Alpha of a three story building with smoke showing from the third floor. A bedroom was quickly knocked down and the Box was held to two and two in 20 minutes.

Grant St House

March 19, 2012 -  At 2012 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the the 4400 block of Grant Street, NE for a house. E27 responded first due and arrived on Side Alpha of a one and half story single family with fire showing. The crew found a fire in the attic space, and quickly knocked down the same. With no extension, the Box was held to one and one in 30 minutes. E27 and T17 operated for 90 minutes assisting investigators.

James Pl House

March 11, 2012 - At 2302 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 5300 block of James Place, NE for a house. E27 responded first due and arrived on side Alpha of a two story detached with smoke showing. The crew found a room on the first floor, and quickly knocked down the same. With no extension, the Box was held to one and one in 30 minutes.

Central Ave House

February 28, 2012 - At 1226 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 5500 block of Central Avenue, SE for a house. E27 responded second due as first arriving units found a basement fire in a two story semi-detached. E27 was changed to first due, and advanced a cross-lay to the first floor while the fire was knocked down. With no extension, the Box was scaled back to one and one.

46th St Apartment

February 25, 2012 - At 1642 hours, units with the 3rd Battalion were alerted to the 600 block of 46th Street, SE for an apartment with people trapped. E27 responded first due, and arrived on side Alpha of a three story apartment building with smoke showing. The crew found a room off in a rear apartment and quickly extinguished the same. The Box was held to one and one in 30 minutes. E27 operated for one hour assisting the investigator.

16th St Building

February 17, 2012 - At 1150 hours, units with the 3rd Battalion were alerted to the 1600 block of 16th Street, SE for a building. First arriving units found a three story school with fire showing from the roof. Within ten minutes of initial arriving companies, a Mayday was called for a firefighter that fell through the roof. A second alarm was called for bringing E27 third due. E27 picked up E25's line, and assisted crews on the roof. E27 operated for just under two hours. We wish our fellow brother a speedy recovery.

Kenilworth Ave Apartment

February 13, 2012 - At 1148 hours, units with the 3rd Battalion were alerted to the 1500 block of Kenilworth Avenue, NE for an apartment. E27 responded first due and arrived on side Alpha of a two story apartment building with smoke showing from the second floor. The crew went to work advancing the attack line to the second floor and putting a knock on the bulk of the visible fire. Truck crews opened up and found the fire walking across the cockloft. The cockloft was knocked down in 20 minutes with no further extension. The Box was later held to two and two.

Lane Pl House

February 12, 2012 - At 0612 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 4200 block of Lane Place, NE for a house. E27 responded first due, and arrived on side Alpha of a one and half story single family with fire showing. E27 went to work knocking down the first floor. However, due to the stairs being burnt out the crew was unable to get to the second floor. The ladder pipe took care of the second floor, and the fire was under control in 30 minutes.

Alexandria FD LODD

February 9, 2012 - The Deanwood Fire Department would like to express our condolences to our brothers from the Alexandria Fire Department, and the friends and family of Paramedic Josh Weissman. Josh tragically lost his life today after being critically injured while working his tour at Medic 206 yesterday.

Blaine St House

February 6, 2012 - At 2045 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to Blaine Street and Benning Road for a house. E27 arrived in the 4000 block of Blaine Street, NE on side Alpha of a two story single family with fire showing from the first and second floors. E27 went to work on the first floor while E30 took care of the second floor. The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes, and the Box was held to two and two to assist investigators.

 

Benning Rd Apartment

February 3, 2012 - At 1938 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 4700 block of Benning Road, SE for an apartment. E27 responded second due, and arrived on side Charlie with fire showing from the second floor of a three story building. The crew advanced the 350', cleared the basement, and knocked down a couple rooms in the rear of the apartment. The Box was held to one and two in 30 minutes. E27 operated for just over an hour assisting investigators. 

Congrats to Capt Sefton

January 25, 2012 - On Wednesday, Captain Scott Sefton celebrated 25 years with DCFD. Past and present members of DCFD gathered for a great dinner put on by Platoon #3. The members of the Deanwood Fire Department would like to congratulate Captain Sefton on his 25 years of dedicated service.

Finally We Have Heat

January 23, 2012 - After six long years, the Engine Bay finally has heat. The Bay had been without heat making it colder than outside for several years now, which also made the bunkroom above very chilly as well. A City Contractor came by the Castle and took a look at our heating system in the bay this week. The Contractor changed filters and belts on the air handler that hadn't been changed in six years. One heating unit was replaced, and one unit was rebuilt. Maybe if we're lucky we can get the broken Air Conditioning System fixed now.

Congratulations A/Sgt Woolston

January 15, 2012 - The Deanwood Fire Department would like to congratulate Technician Matt Woolston on his promotion to Acting Sergeant. Matt has spent the last eight years at 27 Engine, four of those years as the Wagon Driver. As of today, Matt is now assigned to T12-2. Good luck in your new assignment Matt, we will miss you at the Castle.

50th Pl Building

January 4, 2012 - At 1103 hours, units with the 3rd Battalion were alerted for a building. E27 responded to the 1100 block of 50th Place, NE and arrived on side Alpha of a two story school with nothing showing. Upon entry, smoke was found on the second floor. The crew located a small fire in the boys bathroom and quickly extinguished the same. The Box was held with two and two in 10 minutes. 
 

 

Anacostia Rd Apartment

December 29, 2011 - At 0311 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted for an apartment. E27(E51) responded first due to the 300 block of Anacostia Road, SE. E27 arrived on side Alpha of a three story garden apartment building with smoke showing from the second floor in the rear. The crew stretched and found a kitchen with extension and quickly contained the same in 5 minutes. The Box was scaled back to one and one in 20 minutes. 

 

C St House

December 27, 2011 - At 0857 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted for a house . E27(E51) responded second due to the 5400 block of C Street, SE. First arriving units found a two story semi-detached with smoke showing from the second floor. E27 arrived, pulled the 350' to the rear, and found the same. With no basement, E27 backed up E30 with a room on the second floor. Extension was found in the cockloft as the room was opened up. The fire was controlled in 15 minutes and the Box was scaled back to two and two. 

Brother Pumilia Needs Our Help

December 14, 2011 - Brother Pumilia needs our help once again. AJ came back to work for the last month and recently found out that the tumor was still growing. AJ had surgery today to remove the tumor. There were some complications during the surgery, so say a prayer for him. The next 48 hours are crucial. The Deanwood Fire Department is looking for people to cover AJ's shifts. Anyone interested can contact Brian Wolf at E27-4 to sign up. Your help is greatly appreciated. Lee St House

November 25, 2011 - At 1757 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 4000 block of Lee Street, NE for a house. E27 responded first due, and arrived on side Alpha of a one story single family, with fire showing on side Delta. The crew quickly placed a 200' in service and found a couple rooms off. The bulk of fire was knocked down as the remainder of the Box Alarm units arrived. The Box was held to two and two in 20 minutes. E27 operated for two hours assisting investigators.

Pope St House

November 1, 2011 - At 1737 hours, E27 responded on the Working Fire Dispatch in the 3200 block of Pope Street, SE. Units arrived on side Alpha of a two story detached single family with fire showing from the first floor on side Bravo. E27 arrived with the Box Alarm units, laid out from a third water source, and stretched the 350'. The bulk of the fire was contained to Division 1 in 15 minutes.
