46th Pl House

December 18, 2013 - At 1912 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 100 block of 46th Place, NE for a house. E27 responded first due and arrived on side Alpha of a two story, semi-detached with fire showing from the basement on side Delta. E27 entered the residence and found fire extending to the first floor, knocking down the same while second due took care of the basement. E27 operated for two hours assisting the Investigator and overhaul. 

Deanwood Members attend Funeral

December 4, 2013 - On Wednesday, the Deanwood Members gathered with other department brothers to say farewell to brother Cohee of Rescue Squad 3 #3. Before brother Cohee passed away, in a final act of kindness he decided to donate his organs. May you rest in peace brother.

33rd and Ely

November 28, 2013 - As the Demons were about to sit down to Thanksgiving dinner, at 1855 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to 33rd Street and Ely Place for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. E27 responded and found a single vehicle overturned with one trapped. The lineman pulled an attack to protect Rescue Squad 3's crew as they extricated the subject. The patient was removed and turned over to awaiting EMS. The patient was transported to a local trauma center for further evaluation. E27 cleared and went back to enjoy dinner.

Hilltop Terr and G St

October 30, 2013 - At 1315 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to Hilltop Terrace and G Street, SE for a motor vehicle accident with one trapped. Units arrived to find a vehicle into two parked cars and confirmed one trapped. E27 arrived and placed a line in-service to while the subject was cut out of the vehicle. The patient was removed, turned over to awaiting EMS, and transported to a local trauma center for further evaluation. E27 operated for 30 minutes.

I-295 and Eastern

September 17, 2013 - At 2227 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to I-295 Southbound and Eastern Avenue, NE for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. E27 and A27 responded and found a two vehicle accident on the PG County side. E27 and A27 found no entrapment and quickly packaged a pedestrian that was struck while standing on a curb in the median during the accident. A27 transported with Medics on board to the closest trauma facility. The patient from the car was miraculously uninjured and refused treatment. The subject from the truck fled the scene. E27 operated for 20 minutes along with E838, RS801, PA838, and a LifeStar Ambulance.

26th St Building Fire

September 12, 2013 - At 0608 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 800 block of 26th Street, NE for a building. E27 responded third due, as first arriving units found a three story, ordinary construction school with fire showing on side Charlie. E27 arrived and backed up E10 with a fire in a structure in the rear of the school. The fire was quickly knocked down with no extension to the main building. E27 operated for one hour. September 11, 2011 - On Sunday, members of the Deanwood Fire Department took time to remember the loss of our brothers on this day, twelve years ago. The 343 FDNY brothers will forever be in our hearts.

Brother Boston Passes

August 24, 2013 - On Saturday, brother Terrence Boston of E27-1 tragically died in a motorcycle accident. He is survived by his fiancÚ and six children. Private Boston served the citizens and visitors of the District of Columbia for twelve years. If you would like to assist in helping the family of brother Boston, you can click here to donate. Reserve A27 Catches Fire

August 13, 2013 - On Tuesday, after being in a few different Reserve Ambulances in the last week, the dilapidated reserve unit that members on A27 were operating caught on fire while on the scene of medical emergency. As members were bringing their patient out to the Ambulance, it was noticed that the unit was on fire. The crew quickly called for another ambulance to transport the patient, and an Engine Company. E27 responded to the scene and placed the fire under control. This fire was also deemed to be electrical in nature after an investigation, and was the second unit of the day to catch on fire in the city.
 

 

Denver St Apartment

August 8, 2013 - At 0047 hours, units with the 3rd Battalion were alerted to the 2800 block of Denver Street, SE for an apartment. Due to several units being out on other runs, E27 responded 5th due as units arrived and found a two story apartment building with fire showing. E27 arrived, set-up RIT, and made sure there were means of egress for units operating. Multiple rescues were made by the Trucks and Rescue, and several patients were transported to local hospitals. Burroughs and Hayes MVA

August 4, 2013 - At 0912 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 4400 block of Burroughs Avenue, NE for a Motor Vehicle Accident with entrapment. E27 arrived and found an overturned car that had struck a parked vehicle, and confirmed entrapment. The crew found pack-rat conditions while trying to access the patient. Rescue Squad 3 arrived to assist with gaining entry into the car. Unfortunately, the patient succumbed to his injuries. E27 cleared in one hour.

A27 Catches Fire

August 2, 2013 - On Friday, after one year of service, almost 50, 000 miles, hardly any preventive maintenance, and being in shop for the last two months, members on A27 changed over into their regular unit. On A27's first run, the unit caught on fire after arriving at the hospital with a patient. Although members were accused of tampering with the unit by the administration, after an investigation was completed it was deemed to be electrical in nature.
 

 

Benning Rd Apartment

July 16, 2013 - At 0030 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 4500 block of Benning Road, SE for an apartment. E27 responded first due and arriving on side Bravo of a three story apartment building, ordinary construction, with smoke showing. E27 advanced the 350' and found a room in a second floor apartment. The fire was quickly knocked, and the Box was held to one and one.

I St Apartment

July 12, 2013 - At 0141 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 1900 block of I Street, NE for an apartment. E27 responded fourth due as Trinidad units found an ordinary construction, two story apartment building with fire showing the first floor. E27 picked up E8's layout and was assigned to the Bravo exposure. The fire was quickly knocked down, and the Box was held to two and two.

Another Addition to the Family

July 9, 2013 - At 2303 hours, Fireman Castner and his girlfriend Nicky welcomed Brandon Joseph Castner into the world. Brandon came a couple weeks early, weighed 7 lbs 4 oz and was 21 inches long. Mom and baby are doing well, dad not so much. The Deanwood Fire Department would like to congratulate the Castner family on the birth of their beautiful baby boy.

Nelson Pl Apartment

July 7, 2013 - At 2154 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 2900 block of Nelson Place, SE for an apartment. E27 responded fifth due as units found an ordinary construction, two by two apartment building with smoke showing from the roof. The Deanwood Crew established the RIT on side Alpha as the visible fire was knocked in a utility room on the second floor. Crews worked for over an hour opening up and hitting hot spots.
